No, size nor scale will affect renedr time. Render time will increase with the use of (very roughly in order of impact, least to most) reflections, transparency, area shadows, high anti aliasing settings, blurred reflections, Global Illumination.The last four in particular have settings that can be tweaked to get a decent result in an acceptable time, depending on the project.Hope that helps.
